Tales from the Greek islands

The dogs who travelled with us from Lesvos and Lemnos by air have now arrived at their forever homes. Here are a few of their stories. Cinnamon Cinnamon's story is one of the most amazing we've come across. A stray on Lesvos, she became attached to Sam, a member of the Royal Navy whose patrol boat was looking out for immigrants in the Aegean Sea. During the several months that Sam and the rest of the crew were stationed on Lesvos, he and Cinnamon became good friends. So much so that Cinnamon would wait patiently at the port for Sam [...]

Meet our road trip passengers from Greece

After courier J left for Lesvos to accompany dogs travelling to the UK by air, courier Mike joined courier M to collect the pets travelling by road. Hera Simon found Hera when she was very young, suffering from a damaged leg. He arranged for her to have an operation and took care of her. Simon runs a holiday resort on one of the Greek islands and is becoming increasingly involved in animal rescue, so we may well meet him again. Meanwhile, little Hera stole the hearts of another Simon and Sonia, who are giving her a new home in Hampshire. [...]

10 dogs travel from Greece to the UK via Paris

Once couriers J and M had delivered little Cookie to her owners, they headed to Athens airport for courier J to board a flight to the Greek island of Lesvos. Her luggage consisted of eight extra-large travel boxes (dismantled) to accommodate 10 dogs from Lesvos and Lemnos heading to their new homes in the UK. Courier Joe flew out from the UK to help courier J with her charges.  Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Cat and Dog Adoptions has been instrumental in rescuing, caring for, and finding new homes for most of these dogs. Travel for six of the dogs has been funded [...]

Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Dog and Cat Adoptions, who does brilliant work with strays on the Greek island of Lesvos, is looking for help with six hounds rescued from the streets of Mytilini.  Obviously, finding new homes for them is her real aim, but she would also be delighted to receive donations to help fund their foster care.  To find out more about any of the dogs described here, how to adopt, or how to make a donation to help see them through the winter, please contact Lesvos Stray and Cat Adoptions or do drop us a line. Meet our passengers from Greece who are on their way to the UK

Six dogs and two cats from the mainland, and five dogs from the island of Lesvos, are travelling with us to the UK. Akis, who runs a pet taxi service, did a sterling job to help round everyone up. After delivering Coco, Clifford, Squash and Georgie to their holiday destination on Paros, he headed over to Lesvos to collect our passengers from the island. He looked after them at his home overnight, then brought them to our meeting point the following morning. Julius Julius has been adopted from Lesvos by Andy. When Andy was volunteering at refugee camps earlier in [...]

Lesvos dogs in need of new homes

Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Dog and Cat Adoptions has asked us to publicise a tiny handful of the dogs who've been rescued from the streets of Lesvos, and are in urgent search of forever homes. Even if you're not in a position to adopt a dog yourself, your help to publicise their stories more widely or to drum up donations to the charity would be very welcome! If you can offer a home to one of these dogs in need or would like to make a donation towards their care, please contact Rebecca at lesvosstraydogcatadoptions@gmail.com or through us at ask@animalcouriers.com. Bonnie from Greece finds her forever home in the UK

Bonnie travelled with Animalcouriers on our last trip from Greece to the UK. She was rescued from the streets of Lesvos by Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Dog and Cat Adoptions. Animalcouriers sponsored Bonnie's trip to the UK, confident that this lovely girl would soon find her forever home. Well, she did — with couriers J and R! Very sadly they recently lost their 16-year-old Welsh Collie, Billywhizz — but his spirit now lives on in Bonnie. Due to spend just one night at courier J's before being fostered by Wendy, Bonnie unpacked her bags, took a look around — and decided to stay. [...]

Snow in northern Italy; and reunions in the UK

On our way back to the UK from Greece, we stopped in northern Italy where it was snowing. The dogs absolutely loved it! They ran around in it like small children, weaving their noses through the it as though in search of elves and fairies, and leaping in delight. Given the snow that was blanketing much of the UK when we got back, it was a good opportunity for the dogs to acclimatise! Bonnie having a mad moment in the snow Here you can see her splendid bushy tail Jerry takes a careful look around [...]

Crossing from Greece to Italy, and a night in Ancona at our favourite A3Passi

Our ferry from Greece to Italy was on time, so we were able to get the new tyres fitted on our van without delay. While that was being taken care of, we gave the dogs an extra leg stretch. New tyres going on our van Jerry enjoying a walk Mirsa, very attentive A night at the A3Passi hotel We spent the night in Ancona, at one of our very favourite places, the A3Passi Agriturismo Hotel. The hotel is actually closed until the end of January, but when we asked for a room, we were welcomed like [...]

Meet Hooper, Jerry, Calle, Djibril, Mirsa, Bonnie and Blacky from Greece

Animalcouriers recently set off on our first road trip of 2016, to bring pets from Greece to the UK. The weather in Athens has been so warm and sunny, it's hard to believe it's January. We received equally warm and sunny greetings from everyone who came to wave pets off on their way. Colonies of cats live all around Athens, some of whom are lucky enough to be fed and cared for by local charities, volunteer groups and kindly individuals. Wonderful smoky-grey puss Perhaps the householder feeds this little group — they certainly look like they know [...]
