Rescuing dogs from the streets of South Korea

Renata does a fantastic job of rescuing dogs from the streets of South Korea. She originally rescued a dog for herself, but the terrible lives led by these stray dogs drove her to persuade her friends to join her in getting as many of them off the streets as she can.Renata is very careful in the rehoming of these dogs. She selects dogs individually for people who apply to help, then completes the entire process herself — from home visits to assisting with introductions and support during the first days.Fortunately, there are kind people in South Korea who offer to accompany the dogs on their flights from South Korea [...]

Ukrainian pet reunions in the UK since March

As Christmas approaches, we thought it was time to look back at some of the happy Ukrainian pet reunions in the UK we've had the privilege of being part of since March of this year. For Ukrainian families displaced by the Russian invasion and able to enter the UK, the UK government made it possible for their pets to come too. In many cases, family pets were left in good hands in Poland, Germany or other EU countries, awaiting the relevant paperwork while their owners went on ahead. Animalcouriers then collected the pets and transported them to the UK [...]

The Calais 5 from Ukraine are free and home at last

The Calais 5 from Ukraine — two dogs and three cats — have at last reached their new UK homes. Animalcouriers collected these five pets in Warsaw on 21 April on the strength of a phone conversation with the UK government's Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), who assured us they would be granted licences to enter the UK. However, by the time we reached Calais with dogs Ricci and Leia, and cats Snowy, Scruffy and Toffee, all the UK's quarantine spaces had been allocated. So the pets weren't allowed to cross the Channel to the UK. Disappointed to say [...]

Collecting Ukrainian pets in Poland and Germany

Animalcouriers is just back from collecting Ukrainian pets in Poland and Germany for their journeys to the UK. Also on board were a dog and two cats relocating from Estonia to the UK. Viva! in Warsaw We travelled out from the UK with pet food donations for Viva!, an organisation that's doing amazing work supporting Ukrainian pets as they arrive in Poland. We dropped the supplies off in Warsaw before heading to Estonia. The lovely team from Viva! Poland said: "Big big thanks to Animalcouriers who donated a big van full of dog and cat food this morning. It will [...]

Our first Ukrainian pet passenger, Funtik the chinchilla

Animalcouriers recently transported our first Ukrainian pet passenger, Funtik the chinchilla. Funtik and his owner, Daria, fled from Ukraine at the start of the Russian invasion. They crossed the border into Poland and made their way by train to DĂĽsseldorf in Germany, where Daria has a family member. There, Funtik received a clean bill of health and was issued with a small animal export certificate, allowing him to travel to the UK. Courier Anthony collected Funtik in DĂĽsseldorf and brought him to the UK, while Daria hopped on a flight in order to be ready to greet him. Funtik has [...]

Information for people leaving Ukraine with their pets

The situation for people leaving Ukraine with their pets is evolving. Poland, for example, is allowing all pets into the country, whether or not they have microchips, rabies vaccinations or any form of pet passport. Other EU countries are accepting pets at border crossings and many are taking the same approach as Poland. They're making exceptions to their usual rules about dogs, cats and ferrets needing microchips, rabies vaccinations and pet passports. In some cases, the arrival country is microchipping and vaccinating such pets on arrival. IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, is responding to the situation in Ukraine by providing emergency animal aid to the country. It's also gathering [...]

Free road transport for Ukrainian family pets from Poland

The information in this blog has been superseded. Please see Information for people leaving Ukraine with their pets. Animalcouriers is offering free road transport for Ukrainian family pets from Poland to the UK (or to other selected locations on the route, such as Frankfurt, Brussels and Paris). Our idea is to transport pets for owners who've had to leave Ukraine and are making their own way to the UK (or to other destinations on the route). For all pets, we need to know what veterinary records are available. For dogs, cats and ferrets, we need to know if they have microchips and current [...]

Pets travelling to the UK from Greece

Couriers Glenn and Shane headed to Greece to collect pets travelling to the UK. A long passenger list meant that two of our vans were needed to get everyone on board. On the way to Greece courier Glenn stopped in Italy to deliver American Bulldog Nina, who travelled from Manchester. She was so excited to see owner Domenico that she ran round in circles for quite some time! Glamorous Masha travelled with us from Essex to Crete, where Debbie and Ken were waiting to roll out the red carpet for her — and were kind enough to [...]
