Six dogs from Lesvos need your help

Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Dog and Cat Adoptions, who does brilliant work with strays on the Greek island of Lesvos, is looking for help with six hounds rescued from the streets of Mytilini.  Obviously, finding new homes for them is her real aim, but she would also be delighted to receive donations to help fund their foster care.  To find out more about any of the dogs described here, how to adopt, or how to make a donation to help see them through the winter, please contact Lesvos Stray and Cat Adoptions or do drop us a line. William, Mutt and Geoff — and Davies will make four

Lucy and Dawn have been raising funds to bring four rescue dogs to the UK from Greece. A splendid-sounding friend put them in touch with Conrad from the Friends of Animals — Nea Filadelfia group, who has encouraged their fundraising and helped them organise the dogs' travel. William, Mutt and Geoff are all on the current Animalcouriers trip; Davies will follow next month once the money has been raised to fund his journey. Lucy tells us how it all started: "In 2011 I took a year out to do some travelling and ended up on a Greek Island called Syros for five months, [...]

They had a fab selection of raffle prizes, including a combi-microwave donated by Animalcouriers, plus a tombola, face-painting, and cakes, pastries, festive goods and calendars for sale. KAR's Christmas bazaar is renowned in Northern Cyprus so they had a lot to live up to. The weather was kind and the turnout was impressive. Everyone got quickly into the spirit [...]

The Ark’s Gerald Durrell connection

When Louisa from The Ark read our reference to Gerald Durrell's connection with Corfu, she wrote to tell us how The Ark itself is connected to Gerald Durrell: "In 2006 the BBC did a TV remake of his book 'My Family and Other Animals' and asked The Ark for stray dogs to act in some of the scenes. Three of our dogs took part, one specially chosen for his nice barking! It took us two weeks of training for them to be in the episodes." Louisa also gave us copies of a special 2013 calendar for the owners of Arapina, Tychi, Julia, [...]
