Pets travelling to the UK from Greece

Couriers Glenn and Shane headed to Greece to collect pets travelling to the UK. A long passenger list meant that two of our vans were needed to get everyone on board. On the way to Greece courier Glenn stopped in Italy to deliver American Bulldog Nina, who travelled from Manchester. She was so excited to see owner Domenico that she ran round in circles for quite some time! Glamorous Masha travelled with us from Essex to Crete, where Debbie and Ken were waiting to roll out the red carpet for her — and were kind enough to [...]

When Richard met Teddy — and more about Central Bark in Manchester

Six of the dogs who recently travelled with us by air and road from Greece headed to the Central Bark Beach Dog Café in Manchester. The café works with Starlight Barking Trust and Lesvos Stray Cat and Dog Adoptions to help stray and unwanted Greek dogs find new homes in the UK. Run by Tony and Tania, the Beach Dog Café is open to anyone, and especially welcomes dog-owners and dog-lovers. It's also an opportunity for people to meet dogs, like these six, who are looking for forever homes. Tony and Tania take on a few dogs at a time, who get to enjoy all the brilliant [...]

Canine airlift from Greece to Paris, then on to the UK by road

Animalcouriers worked with local Greek welfare organisations to help arrange flights to Paris for 10 young dogs and puppies. Couriers J & M drove to Greece; while couriers Mike and Matthew left two other Animalcouriers vans at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, before boarding a flight to Athens. Couriers Mike & Matthew then accompanied the dogs on their flight to Athens to Paris, and took them into the UK by road. Meatball and Michu This gorgeous pair of pups were discovered abandoned near a refugee camp in the Ioannina area of northern Greece. They were looked after by Matilda and Veronica, who [...]

Tales from the Greek islands

The dogs who travelled with us from Lesvos and Lemnos by air have now arrived at their forever homes. Here are a few of their stories. Cinnamon Cinnamon's story is one of the most amazing we've come across. A stray on Lesvos, she became attached to Sam, a member of the Royal Navy whose patrol boat was looking out for immigrants in the Aegean Sea. During the several months that Sam and the rest of the crew were stationed on Lesvos, he and Cinnamon became good friends. So much so that Cinnamon would wait patiently at the port for Sam [...]

Six dogs from Lesvos need your help

Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Dog and Cat Adoptions, who does brilliant work with strays on the Greek island of Lesvos, is looking for help with six hounds rescued from the streets of Mytilini.  Obviously, finding new homes for them is her real aim, but she would also be delighted to receive donations to help fund their foster care.  To find out more about any of the dogs described here, how to adopt, or how to make a donation to help see them through the winter, please contact Lesvos Stray and Cat Adoptions or do drop us a line. Dogs and cats join the mobile menagerie in Greece

Having delivered all our passengers who travelled with us from the UK, we were ready to start collecting the pets who're leaving Greece with us. Before that, however, there was time for dinner in Glyfada. Yummy seafood platter enjoyed in Glyfada Joey Cute black cat Joey belongs to Nikolaos and family. They're relocating from Athens to Somerset, and of course Joey is going too. Joey isn't too sure at first about this travelling lark Ginger and Obama Ginger and Obama belong to Mia, who's relocating to the UK for work and taking her beloved dog and [...]

Meet our passengers from Greece who are on their way to the UK

Six dogs and two cats from the mainland, and five dogs from the island of Lesvos, are travelling with us to the UK. Akis, who runs a pet taxi service, did a sterling job to help round everyone up. After delivering Coco, Clifford, Squash and Georgie to their holiday destination on Paros, he headed over to Lesvos to collect our passengers from the island. He looked after them at his home overnight, then brought them to our meeting point the following morning. Julius Julius has been adopted from Lesvos by Andy. When Andy was volunteering at refugee camps earlier in [...]

Meet Hooper, Jerry, Calle, Djibril, Mirsa, Bonnie and Blacky from Greece

Animalcouriers recently set off on our first road trip of 2016, to bring pets from Greece to the UK. The weather in Athens has been so warm and sunny, it's hard to believe it's January. We received equally warm and sunny greetings from everyone who came to wave pets off on their way. Colonies of cats live all around Athens, some of whom are lucky enough to be fed and cared for by local charities, volunteer groups and kindly individuals. Wonderful smoky-grey puss Perhaps the householder feeds this little group — they certainly look like they know [...]

Buddy and Milou head to the UK from Greece

Courier J is in Greece to accompany two rescue dogs, Buddy and Milou, who're travelling to their families in the UK. They're taking the plane from Athens to Paris Charles de Gaulle, and will travel the last leg of the journey by road. Buddy hails from Lesvos, where he was adopted by Amy who'd gone to help with the refugee crisis. Amy tells us: "I flew to Lesvos from the UK to volunteer with the Syrian refugee crisis there. The Greek islands like Lesvos in particular hold many tragic stories; the families travel there by boat across the Aegean Sea, [...]

Safely back from Lesvos, and meeting more UK-bound passengers in Athens

Courier J and her seven charges from Lesvos arrived safely in Piraeus Port where they were met by Akis, who runs a pet taxi service. Akis has become a firm friend of ours, and happily obliges all our requests, however outlandish they may seem! True to form, he was a complete hero and disembarked all the dogs into his taxi. He had already met up with Aphrodite and her Rottweiler, Maya, who'd arrived at the port on the morning ferry from Crete. Because of a general strike in Greece, there were no ferries for 24 hours. So the eight dogs [...]
