Meeting new passengers in Portugal and Spain; and we mark Ascension by staying at a convent

Animalcouriers met up with three super cats and a cheeky Cocker Spaniel who're all travelling with us to the UK. Ginger Emma is moving to Montrose in Scotland from her home town of Chiclana de la Frontera, in south west Spain, and we're transporting her cat Ginger for her. Ginger is a very lucky cat. He was found on the streets and taken to a cat charity, where Emma met him and decided to adopt him, and now he is quite firmly her boy! Emma told us she had found our travel blog very comforting, reading about the pets. She [...]

Pick-ups in Portugal: Pluto, Baco, Shuba, Jecca, Sushi, Sky and Laura

After reuniting pets with their owners in Spain, we crossed the border into Portugal to collect a fine group of passengers who're travelling to the UK with us. Pluto On the Algarve we met Cocker Spaniel Pluto at Estoi. He's been through some tough times in his short life, but now he's off to live happily ever after with Joy in Surrey. Lena and her friend, who've been looking after Pluto, were in tears as they said goodbye to him. We were pleased to reassure them that Joy is very excited that he's on his way to her. Lena [...]

Babi, Jon Jon, Allen, Floyd and Rubia get on board in Portugal and Spain; and Mia is reunited

Animalcouriers stayed the night in Alcacer do Sal in Portugal, where we were lucky enough to get a bargain rate at the local pousada. Portuguese pousadas are similar to Spain's paradors and, like the paradors, many are ancient buildings which have been sympathetically restored. Our accommodation in Alcacer do Sal — a 15th century former monastery Two characters wondering if there was room in our van! A very seasonal image on the side of the chapel Santa on his rounds We collected lovely black cat Babi from Ana's mum, who's been looking [...]

Buddy and Milou head to the UK from Greece

Courier J is in Greece to accompany two rescue dogs, Buddy and Milou, who're travelling to their families in the UK. They're taking the plane from Athens to Paris Charles de Gaulle, and will travel the last leg of the journey by road. Buddy hails from Lesvos, where he was adopted by Amy who'd gone to help with the refugee crisis. Amy tells us: "I flew to Lesvos from the UK to volunteer with the Syrian refugee crisis there. The Greek islands like Lesvos in particular hold many tragic stories; the families travel there by boat across the Aegean Sea, [...]

Dragao, Sofia, Nina, Bella, Betty, Jack, Honey, Lola and Michael board the bus in Portugal, Gibraltar and Spain

Animalcouriers are wending our way towards the UK, collecting more pets as we go. Cats Dragao and Sofia are travelling with us from Lisbon to Oxfordshire to join their owners Tania and Alexandre. Dutiful dad Luis kindly brought these gorgeous cats to us. At the moment they're quite shy and suspicious about this odd turn of events in their lives — but this isn't unusual in feline passengers. We're sure they'll soon come out of their shells. Sibling dogs Nina and Fofhino were adopted by Sadie's dad when he was living on the Portuguese Algarve. Unfortunately, he recently became ill [...]

Reunions for Princessa, Bella, Foxydog, Poppy, Rex and Ringo; and Pixtura, Tavi, Mitzi, Polly and Maru are first to join our UK-bound trip

Animalcouriers reunited pets with their owners in Spain and Portugal. We then started the trip back north with the first of our UK-bound passengers on board. Having reunited lovely little Princessa with her owner's partner, Antonio, we spent the night at the coastal resort of Mojacar. During our evening dog walks along the seafront, we watched the waves pounding onto the sand as a storm brewed up. By morning the storm had blown itself out, and dogs and couriers alike enjoyed watching the sun rise on a fresh new day. When Bella's owner Jean and her husband moved to Spain, [...]
