Behind the scenes at Animalcouriers — keeping pets on the move

Now that we've turned the page on the challenging year that was 2020, we thought we'd give you a sneak peak behind the scenes at Animalcouriers. It's also an opportunity for our directors to give a shout out to the whole team, who've shown phenomenal dedication, creativity and even courage to keep pets on the move. Our office team. When Covid struck, our office team — Lesley, Theresa and Natalie — had to become used to working from home. They've worked flat out, dealing with an increase in enquiries that often finds them at their desks in the evenings and [...]

Christmas crackers for six cats in Carcassonne

Almost the final special delivery of the year, Animalcouriers delivered six cats in Carcassonne. It was just in time for a happy Christmas reunion with their owners, who've relocated to France from Colchester in Essex. A lovely, laid-back group, the cats travelled well. Once settled in, their owners sent us some splendid photos of their so-called 'little monsters'. Pandemic-related restrictions have made it a challenging year for everyone — and uncertainty around the implications of Brexit has added to the complexity for many people. We've been impressed by our clients' patience, fortitude, and determination to do the right thing by [...]

Post-Brexit pet travel — Defra update

The information in this blog post has been superseded by the details in our post-Brexit travel page and Brexit travel FAQs page and the Defra website. On 16 December a Defra update was issued about post-Brexit pet travel. The good news is that the UK has been granted part 2 listed status by the EU. This means that dogs, cats and ferrets travelling to EU countries from the UK won't need a blood test and a three-month wait after a rabies vaccination. However, from 1 January 2021, UK-issued pet passports (issued under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) won't be recognised by [...]

Recent pet travel trips to France, Monaco and Spain

Courier Ricardo made recent pet travel trips to France, Monaco and Spain, reuniting cats, dogs and guinea pigs with their families. Given the pandemic-related restrictions in place, some had been separated for a while, which made the reunions all the sweeter. Filou, a dog from London to the Alpes Maritimes Adorable Filou, a Cocker-Labrador cross, made the repatriation trip with us from London to the Alpes-Maritimes in France. Filou and family had been apart since the start of the lockdown, so everyone was delighted to be back together. Filou a bit too keen on coming in for her close-up! [...]

Making new owners happy with puppy arrivals

Courier Glenn was on the road a few weeks ago, making new owners happy with puppy arrivals. His travels took him around England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany and France. 2 puppies from Scotland to England These very cute Mini Schnauzer puppies joined us in Scotland, collected from their breeder in Falkirk. One puppy went to Elizabeth in Bury, and the other to Wendy in Burgess Hill. The puppies had an overnight stay with courier Glenn who reports they were the perfect house guests. Meeting the two pups in Scotland — it's quite unusual to see a white Mini Schnauzer [...]

Delivering puppies and kittens to their new owners

The extension of the UK lockdown means we're receiving quite a number of requests to collect puppies and kittens from their breeders and deliver them to their new owners. Although we feel that, normally, it's best for the new owner to collect their pet, we understand that the current circumstances make that difficult. We've taken advice from Defra, the RSPCA and the Kennel Club, all of whom say what really matters is that young puppies and kittens go to their new homes once they're ready, so that they can be properly socialised into their new families. All three organisations have approved Animalcouriers to undertake [...]
