From reunions in Stoupa to Athens, to meet Pouca the cat

When Animalcouriers reached Greece by ferry from Italy, our first stop was Stoupa, to reunite cats Mr Pickles and Douglas, and dogs Murphy and Twiglet with Sharon. Overnight accommodation in the area is a bit sparse at this time of year but we were lucky enough to end up in a rather nice little cottage. With the weather howling and storming outside, we took advantage of the open fire which had been laid ready for us. Along with the firewood was a plastic bag full of amazingly effective firelighters — pieces of cardboard soaked in olive oil. Sacrilege! we hear [...]

Bibi and Odin are reunited in Switzerland, and Ruben, Hugo, Red and Jim arrive in France

After reuniting cats Fleur and Mittens with their owners, Mike and Debbie, in Normandy, we drove into Switzerland to deliver Bibi and Odin to Alan and his family. It was hard to say who was more excited at the reunion — humans or dogs! Then it was back into France to drop handsome trio Ruben, Hugo and Red at Le Jardin des Chats, a super cattery in the Montpellier area, where they'll have a short stay until their owner Susan catches up with them. And we left Gentleman Jim with mutual friends, for collection by his owner Faith. The next day, with [...]

Rapturous reunions for Aragon, Cigrunet, Bonnie and Charlie; and tasty treats in Spain

It was rather wet and snowy when Animalcouriers met up with Céline in the French town of Pontarlier, near the border with Switzerland, to deliver young Savannah cat Aragon to her. Within about an hour, Céline was in touch to say Aragon was already walking on a lead and had been out and about, exploring his new surroundings! We then headed on south and spent the night just outside Narbonne. The next day, we continued into Spain, where our first stop was near Tarragona to reunite cute rabbit Cigrunet with Miriam, who was very pleased to see him. Then it [...]

Vladi travels from London to Paris, and we reach Malta via France, Switzerland and Italy

Animalcouriers left the UK a few days ago, having collected Camille's handsome Persian cat Vladi from his mum Sylvie. Vladi travelled with us to Paris, as Camille has returned there after working in London. We then headed through France and Switzerland to Italy, and took a ferry from the toe of Italy to the Sicilian port of Messina. We were going to take the catamaran from Sicily to Malta, but it wasn't available, so we made alternative plans to use the EuroMed Freight route. We were told that our van could go but only one passenger, so courier J volunteered [...]

Meet our passengers from Italy who are heading to the UK: Piccola, Bichette and Victoria

Couriers J and M took a catamaran from Malta to Sicily, then another boat from Sicily to the Italian mainland. Meanwhile courier S, already in Italy, delivered stunning pure-white cat Blinky to her owner Paul. Her new home is in the beautiful town of Marsciano near Perugia. With all the building work going on, we could only get within 50 yards of the house, so Paul popped out to meet us — as did several intrigued assistants from a very smart shoe shop nearby! Then it was off to Sorrento collect Siberian Chipmunk Piccola, who's moving to Cambridge with her [...]

Exploring Malta, and collecting Milo who is off to live in Ireland

With a day and half to spend in Malta before continuing their journey towards Greece, Animalcouriers set about exploring the island. Couriers M and J both have connections to Malta — courier M was born there and left as a baby, and courier J went there on holiday as a child. One must-see sight on Malta is Mdina, a wonderfully preserved hilltop fortified town that was once the capital. It boasts a fine cathedral, a nunnery and dramatic battlements — and some great places to eat. Before leaving Malta we caught up with a friend of ours, Trevor, who's spent [...]

Enjoying the natural and architectural splendours of Greece

On the way to Athens, Animalcouriers has the chance to admire some fascinating sights in Greece. This view of Igoumenitsa is breathtaking — it's easy to see why people fall in love with Greece and the Greek islands. The Rio-Antirrio bridge crosses the Gulf of Corinth and links the town of Rio on the Peloponnese to Antirrio on mainland Greece. The world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge, it looks impressive against a bright blue Greek sky. Old and new together — in the shadow of one of the bridge's huge concrete supports lies a fort; and [...]

Miski, Cali and Scali are on their way back to Crete

Miski, Cali and Scali have spent the winter on Jersey with Jill and Sheila. Now it's time for everyone to go home to Crete, where Jill and Sheila do great work looking after stray cats, making sure they get health checks and getting them neutered. It will be quite a long journey by road for these three cats but, following a less than ideal experience of getting them to Jersey by air, Jill and Sheila are keen to ensure their little family will have a more sedate ride this time around. We had a bit of spare time on Jersey [...]

Ayyah to South Korea, Muffin to South Africa, and useful geese

Towards the end of the summer Ayyah's owners relocated to Ulsan in South Korea for work. Young Border Collie Ayyah has now flown out to join them, travelling with Lufthansa from London to Seoul via Frankfurt. Animalcouriers worked with Gina of First Class Pet in Seoul to arrange Ayyah's travel. As always, Gina was very helpful and knowledgeable about the paperwork Ayyah needed, and did everything she could to ensure Ayyah had a good trip. Ayyah had an overnight stay on arrival in Seoul, then flew on to Ulsan in the south of the country for a reunion with her owners. Animalcouriers [...]

Stella and Tyson swap Scotland for the sunny south of France

This fine and friendly pair of Staffies travelled down from Aberdeen in Scotland to stay with Animalcouriers, ready to join our southern European trip. Yesterday we reached the Limoges area of France with them, where they enjoyed a lovely evening walk despite the misty conditions. Today we delivered them to their new home near Carcassonne. Tyson multitasking — chewing his lead and wrapping it round a tree Stella takes things a little more sedately Mushroom-spotting on our walk More mushrooms caught in the camera flash These ones look more like storybook [...]
