Ukrainian pet reunions in the UK since March

As Christmas approaches, we thought it was time to look back at some of the happy Ukrainian pet reunions in the UK we've had the privilege of being part of since March of this year. For Ukrainian families displaced by the Russian invasion and able to enter the UK, the UK government made it possible for their pets to come too. In many cases, family pets were left in good hands in Poland, Germany or other EU countries, awaiting the relevant paperwork while their owners went on ahead. Animalcouriers then collected the pets and transported them to the UK [...]

A long-awaited reunion with Barsik on Ukraine Independence Day

We were delighted to facilitate a long-awaited reunion with Barsik on Ukraine Independence Day for owner Valya. Valya β€” who's from Pryluky, about 40 miles east of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv β€” is staying in the UK with sponsor Ruth in North Yorkshire. Valya's beloved cat Barsik, a handsome tabby, entered the UK on a special licence and had to go straight into quarantine. As a kitten, Barsik had an accident that has permanently affected the mobility of his back legs. But he's adapted well, as animals often do. The cattery where Barsik spent his four months of quarantine [...]

Reuniting more Ukrainian cats, dogs and a rat with their owners in the UK

We've had the pleasure of reuniting more Ukrainian cats, dogs and a rat with their owners in the UK. At the same time as Nimo the tortoise was travelling with us, our couriers met cats, dogs and a fancy rat called Lili, all heading to the UK to rejoin their families. Here are some of their stories, which remind us all how important our pets are to all of us, how hard it is to be apart from them, and the joy and relief that come with being back together. It's why we're offering free road transport for Ukrainian [...]

Ukrainian dog Neo and his family reach Scotland

We were pleased to help little Ukrainian dog Neo and his family reach Scotland. From Ukraine to France via Germany After leaving Ukraine, Snezhana, her son Danylo and daughter Kira spent two months in Cologne, Germany. They were waiting for permission (a special licence) to bring their little dog Neo into the UK, where their sponsor in Glasgow was ready to welcome them. Once they received Neo's special licence, the family made their way to Calais. So that they didn't have to stay in a refugee camp, their sponsor booked them into the Premier Inn for the night. Danylo [...]

Reuniting Cheeta with his Ukrainian family in the UK

Animalcouriers recently helped with reuniting Cheeta with his Ukrainian family in the UK. This dear little dog and his family had a rather upsetting experience before Animalcouriers got involved, but we're pleased to say there was a happy ending. Cheeta and his family initially travelled with an unscrupulous Polish pet transporter who took no notice of the government rules on Ukrainian pets entering the UK. He popped the family and Cheeta into his van for one of his scheduled trips (the other pets complied with the rules for their journeys), and charged them quite a hefty sum for the [...]

Santa and Persek from Ukraine reach the UK

Santa and Persek from Ukraine reached the UK with owners Tania and Alina. Courier Ray collected this gorgeous dog and magnificent cat, along with their mother-and-daughter owners, at a shelter in Calais and brought them to the UK. Duncan Murray-Clarke, owner of Service Dealer, was on hand to welcome Tania and Alina and their pets Santa and Persek on arrival in Dover. Working with industry partners, Duncan's business has made donations to a number of organisations supporting Ukrainian refugees, including a generous sum to Animalcouriers. Duncan said: "Animalcouriers did this collection free of charge, so we are making a donation [...]

The Calais 5 from Ukraine are free and home at last

The Calais 5 from Ukraine β€” two dogs and three cats β€” have at last reached their new UK homes. Animalcouriers collected these five pets in Warsaw on 21 April on the strength of a phone conversation with the UK government's Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), who assured us they would be granted licences to enter the UK. However, by the time we reached Calais with dogs Ricci and Leia, and cats Snowy, Scruffy and Toffee, all the UK's quarantine spaces had been allocated. So the pets weren't allowed to cross the Channel to the UK. Disappointed to say [...]
