Animalcouriers set off from the UK with cats, dogs and a parrot travelling to Scandinavia. We drove north towards Hamburg in Germany, then caught the ferry to Denmark.

We stopped at the rather magnificent Schloss Ahrensburg northeast of Hamburg to walk the dogs. The castle, which dates from the 16th century, is surrounded by a moat and six hectares of parkland.

Our Scandlines ferry from Puttgarten in Germany to Rodby in Denmark

From Tårs on the Danish mainland to the island of Langeland

Traditional thatched houses on Langeland

These ones look to have been around for a lot longer

There’s even a thatched residence for the local ducks!

We were quite taken with this windmill

The church looked worth a visit

We weren’t sure what was going on here — a crockery lending library perhaps?
Charlie and Ewan
Handsome feline duo Charlie and Ewan belong to Christina, who’s following them from Somerset to Langeland. Once she knew the cats had reached their destination, Christina wrote to say:
“I honestly can’t thank you enough for getting my boys (cats) to Denmark for me. Wonderful service, keeping me updated all the time and just brilliant communication from all of you. They are both very happy (even if they were a bit grumpy along the way) in their new home, and I can’t wait to join them. Thanks so much for all your help and simply brilliant service.”

Splendid Ewan

Gorgeous Charlie

Christina was still in the UK when we delivered the cats. Winnie launched a FaceTime chat on her phone so that Christina could be there virtually when her cats arrived.

Winnie delighted to welcome the cats
Turbo
Adorable ginger-and-white puss Turbo belongs to Anna and family, who’re swapping Southam for Copenhagen, where Anna has a wonderful new job with jewellery company Pandora.

Cool dude Turbo

Anna happily reunited with Turbo. She told us her 14-month-old daughter would be so excited to see Turbo again.

Animalcouriers on the ferry from Helsingor in Denmark to Helsingborg in Sweden

This ferry is battery operated. Charging takes place at each end of the trip while passengers drive off and on. Smart!
Ronn
Lovable Ronn is a rescue Doberman whose ears were illegally clipped. He has the sweetest nature but is super bouncy and wants to play with every other dog he comes across. He travelled with us from Bradford to Mölndal in Sweden.

We improvised a halti-type lead for Ronn, as he’s not familiar with walking on a lead

Rebecca and her boyfriend videoing Ronn’s arrival

Ronn so pleased to see them
Billy
Billy, an Orange Wing Amazon parrot, belongs to Camilla. We collected him in Brighton and he homeboarded for a few days with courier J, who enjoyed getting to know him. It wasn’t long before Billy started greeting her in the morning with a charming ‘Hello gorgeous!’

Beautiful Billy

Enjoying his favourite breakfast of three grapes

A very happy reunion for Billy and Camilla in Molnlycke in Sweden. Camilla reports that he chirruped contentedly all the way home.
Eddy
Dear French Bulldog Eddy travelled with us from Grimsby to Oslo.

Who could resist that face!

Happy reunions in Norway for Eddy and Lucy. Lucy is hoping to become a primary school teacher at the international school in Oslo, so we’re crossing our fingers for her.
Kili and Nya
This floofy Ragdoll pair belong to Celine, who’s moved from Leamington Spa to Stockholm.

Pretty Kili was a rather shy traveller

Delightful Nya was a little more forward

Celine and family very pleased to be reunited with Kili and Nya in rainy Stockholm
A night in prison
We spent our last night in Sweden at Hotel Bilan in Karlstad, which was once Värmland’s County Prison! It’s been cleverly restored and we enjoyed a very comfortable stay, with very attentive staff. There were plenty of mementos of its days as a jail to visit and admire!

Some frightful piece of equipment with a ball and chain attached for good measure

The former wardens and other staff

Given the wet and cloudy Swedish climate, we weren’t surprised to find a healthy selection of vitamins on the breakfast table
A visit to Ikea
No ordinary Ikea this — it’s the Ikea museum in Älmhult, on the site of the very first Ikea store. Having delivered all of our passengers, we took time out for a tour before leaving Sweden. The restaurant serves an extended meatball menu, and there’s even an Ikea hotel!

Even on a wet day, it looked very stylish from outside

Ikea HQ (next door to the museum) just visible through a forest of signs from around the world

Fashions and furnishings from yesteryear

Glad you enjoyed it.
My DNA says 15% Scandinavian so this is probably the closest glimpse I’ll ever have of the countryside Wonderful.
And a fabulous group of travelers as always…safe travels.
We do approve of the Scandinavians! They are very creative and eco friendly.
I really enjoy it when you include photographs of sights along the way as well as pictures of your guests.
We try to include shots from along the way but some trips are a little too complicated to allow. This one had rather a lot of opportunities.
I forget that ear cropping is illegal in Europe. It is now trendy here to leave tails undocked so that judges think the dog is a European import.
As you can see, it still happens and is very sad to see. Sneaky.
Wondeerful sharing. :))
Thanks!
What beautiful photos! That Schloss is incredibly gorgeous…..lots of happy animals and owners too – which is “par for the course” when Animal Couriers is transporting……..!!
Pam and Teddy
Thanks you two!
Lovely passengers, as always. I really enjoy the scenic tour as well. Finally, a cat breed I’m familiar with… the rag dolls. They’re gorgeous.
We’re lucky enough to have one — a princess in every way 😀
