By the time we made our final delivery of pets from the UK, Animalcouriers was in cat-only mode. The last drop-off was Phatcat and Pikachu, a soft and gentle pair of cats who homeboarded with courier J before the trip, and proved to be laid-back passengers on their journey to Lisbon.

Gustavo Manual and Mel Maria

These marvellously monikered felines belong to Patricia and Nuno. Patricia, a clinical pharmacist, went on ahead to the family’s new home in Exeter, and has already started her new job. Nuno and the cats are not far behind. Nuno will start job hunting when he gets there. He already speaks excellent English, which should give him a head start.

Nuno took photos of the cats settling in, to send to Patricia, who is missing them greatly. Nuno was keen to see the cats were comfortable before we set off.

Teresa

When Simonetta was on holiday in the Vedras area of Portugal, she found stray cat Teresa and decided to adopt her. Simonetta arranged for the Clinica Veterinaria de Vigia to take care of Teresa until she could travel. And if our experience of how helpful they are is anything to go by, Teresa couldn’t have been in better hands.

We had got a bit lost driving around the Silver Coast, looking for the clinic, when we noticed a car flashing its lights at us. The driver was Fatima who works at the clinic, and had popped out to do some shopping. She kindly guided us back to the clinic, which was just as well, as we were quite some distance away!

Teresa's markings are simply beautiful — we can see why Simonetta fell for her!

Portuguese political satire spotted in Torres Vedras. In this (somewhat unsubtle) swipe at the EU, Angela Merkel is shown as a toddler having a tantrum in a high chair, with other EU leaders depicted as Pinocchio-style figures with long noses.

Bella

Following a spell teaching in Seville, Bella’s owner Jenny has returned to the UK. Her teaching colleague Gain has been taking care of Bella, until we came by to scoop her up.

Hamish

Handsome puss Hamish is relocating from the West Tarn area of France to Taunton, to rejoin owner Terrence. We collected Hamish from Jenny at her lovely cattery Chatil de Lomagne. Jenny told us Hamish had been the perfect guest, and said she would miss him.

We stayed the night at the Abbaye des Capucins in Montauban, where we enjoyed a display of traditional — and not so traditional — artworks. This amazing chandelier is made up of individual glass leaves.

Tasha

Our final collection was tabby cat Tasha, who’s been staying with Barbara at her Caring Cattery, in Rochechouart near Limoges.

When Tasha’s family moved to Australia they decided it would be best to rehome their pets. Tasha, the last one to move, has a new home waiting for her in the UK with Karen, a cousin of the family.

With delightful Tasha on board, that's our 100% feline passenger list complete, and we're now heading for Calais and our crossing to the UK
