Meet our road trip passengers from Greece

After courier J left for Lesvos to accompany dogs travelling to the UK by air, courier Mike joined courier M to collect the pets travelling by road. Hera Simon found Hera when she was very young, suffering from a damaged leg. He arranged for her to have an operation and took care of her. Simon runs a holiday resort on one of the Greek islands and is becoming increasingly involved in animal rescue, so we may well meet him again. Meanwhile, little Hera stole the hearts of another Simon and Sonia, who are giving her a new home in Hampshire. [...]

10 dogs travel from Greece to the UK via Paris

Once couriers J and M had delivered little Cookie to her owners, they headed to Athens airport for courier J to board a flight to the Greek island of Lesvos. Her luggage consisted of eight extra-large travel boxes (dismantled) to accommodate 10 dogs from Lesvos and Lemnos heading to their new homes in the UK. Courier Joe flew out from the UK to help courier J with her charges.  Rebecca from Lesvos Stray Cat and Dog Adoptions has been instrumental in rescuing, caring for, and finding new homes for most of these dogs. Travel for six of the dogs has been funded [...]

All the way to Greece with Cookie

Little dog Cookie travelled in style to Greece as our only passenger!  We crossed the Channel to Calais and decided to stop overnight a little way away, as the Jungle clearance was in full swing. Just 40 minutes away, at Lumbres, we found a golf club/hotel with rooms to spare as it isn’t high season. Lovely and quiet, it offered super dog-walking, but Cookie was a bit unsure about putting her paws down on the wet grass! Cookie prefers a nice dry duvet to wet grass Admiring the hydrangeas We motored on towards Italy and managed [...]

From Birmingham to Stronsay with a family of 15 pets

Louise and her mum Laura have moved from Birmingham to Stronsay, one of the Orkney islands off the north coast of Scotland. Home to around 350 people, this beautiful island boasts two shops and a pub/hotel. Louise and Laura have moved to a typical Orkney stone cottage, and Animalcouriers had the pleasure of transporting their 15-strong family of dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs to join them. Almost the minute they arrived on Stronsay, Louise and Laura added two Shetland ponies to their menagerie, adopted from a neighbour who was leaving the island! The three dogs travelling with us are [...]

Meet our passengers travelling to France, Spain and Portugal

Animalcouriers set off from the UK with a fine crew of passengers on board. Our first stop was a wonderful hotel in Normandy, Chateau du Landel at Bézancourt. We always try to do some research before we set off to find places to stay where we can park safely, where our passengers will be welcome, and where dogs can have good walks. Generally, we do pretty well and this time was no exception.  This lovely chateau was an out-of-season bargain — we would always encourage travellers in France to consider places to stay away from town and in the countryside. Quite [...]

Collecting puppy Marius, and Channel-hopping with Daniel and Walter

Courier Richard recently returned from a quick trip to France where he collected Bernese Mountain puppy Marius, and Daniel and his cat Walter. Marius Marius hails from Gézier et Fontenelay. This young pup was collected for Doreen in Colchester, whose previous much loved Bernese Mountain Dog passed away recently. Finding she couldn't be without one of these cuddly hounds, Doreen turned to her original breeder for a new puppy. Handsome young Marius Glorious chateau spotted along the way The tricolour proudly flying Walter On his way back to the UK from Marius's mountain home, [...]
