Travelling to France, Spain and Portugal with cats, dogs and a parrot on board

Animalcouriers have two trips on the go at the moment: while couriers S and G leave the UK and head south through France and on to Spain and Portugal, couriers M and J are on their way to Sweden via Switzerland, Italy and northern France.

Meet the pets travelling south with couriers S and G.

Spirit and Flight

We collected Colleen’s two stunning cats from Cambridgeshire earlier this week, and they’ve been homeboarding with us until it was time to head to France. Spirit is a seal-point Siamese and flight is a chocolate point Siamese. Their owners have relocated to Saint Projet and are so looking forward to the cats joining them.

Daisy

Cuddly cat Daisy also homeboarded with us while her owner went on ahead to Montazels. Daisy enjoyed plenty of TLC while she stayed with us. Her owner rescued her 15 years ago and has been eagerly awaiting her arrival, no doubt warning the local cats that queen D was on her way!

Bolly and Bertie

Another fine pair of felines, Bolly and Bertie are moving from Essex to Murcia in Spain, to join owner Tina.

Leo

Alejandro recently moved to Granada but couldn’t take his Bengal cat Leo immediately. So Leo’s been in the care of Alejandro’s friend Nacho in Bournemouth, where we collected him to join the trip.

Oliver

Cute Westie Oliver belongs to Immaculata and her partner, who are going to spend time with family in Spain over the summer. Oliver’s travelling with us, to join them in the beautiful Jaen area near Granada.

Beau and Miya

Courier Mike collected Boxer dog duo Beau and Miya in Belfast. With owner Rosaleen, they’re relocating to Javea in Spain.

Jerry

Staffie cross Jerry was due to travel on our last trip, but turned out to be 15cm taller than we expected. So unless we had folded him up, he couldn’t have fitted in the bedroom we’d assigned him. So he stayed at Freer Farm Kennels until this trip, where we could make sure he had a bedroom the right size. Now he’s finally on his way to Lagos in Portugal.

What a softie! The kennel staff were sad to see Jerry go, but we're loving having him on board.

Milo

Terrier cross Milo is travelling with us to Spain. He’ll be joining Marie at Chiclana de la Frontera.

Spectacular sunflowers, as far as the eye could see, on our early morning walks with the dogs, while it was still fresh and cool

Jaco

In Spanish Catalonia we collected 70-year-old orange wing Amazon parrot Jaco. Yes, he really is 70! For the past 20 years he’s lived with eight dogs, so was quick to introduce himself to the dogs on board and start chatting away.

Because his owner has recently been ill, Jaco is being rehomed to friends in Cadiz who have other parrots. Moving birds can be tricky, so we’re pleased to be able to help this senior fellow on his way to his new home.

A beautiful collection – of course I’m partial to the meezers and the Bengal – but wow, Jaco! I hope he settles into his new home, it can’t be easy for him.

Suspected as much! Jaco will have a period of adjustment but hopefully having parrot mates will make it a lot easer.

Wow. The siamese breed sure has changed since my mother breed them in the 60’s.

A cute lot of cats and dogs. Love the sunflowers, and so happy to hear Jaco made it to his new home.

We find it very hard to pass a field of sunflowers without taking a snap. We’re all rooting for Jaco settling well in his new home. Such a venerable fellow.

What a gorgeous group you have this round! You are right, birds are tricky, especially elderly and most likely very attached to his human companion. Good luck and safe travels! Love the amazing photos!

Thanks Marty! We’re really hoping that Jaco settles well with his new family and fellow parrots.

Such beautiful passengers, and so many interesting photos of the countryside! Rick and I loved the wine bottle with flowers at Limoux. The field of sunflowers is amazing. First time I have ever seen a straw bale horse, too! Always a pleasure to stop by here.
