After a day of driving winds and torrential rain, we stayed the night just outside the beautiful city of Avila in Spain, at a golf resort offering a good deal. After all, who wants to play golf in those weather conditions — apart from hardy Brits perhaps!
We woke with relief to a much milder day, so we were able to enjoy the views of the city walls and the countryside, and walk the dogs in the resort’s lovely gardens.
After collecting the last of our Spanish passengers, we headed to Narbonne and stayed the night with friends. Yesterday we made our final collections in France, and expected to make good headway towards Calais. But the combination of Ascension weekend and the horrid wet and windy weather meant that the motorways were heaving with traffic, and the driving conditions were less than ideal, so we didn’t get as far as expected. Today we’ll make up as much lost time as we can, to stay on track for our Channel crossing from Calais tomorrow.
Mikas and Onda
Our friends and colleagues at Global Pet Travel in Lisbon arranged for Mikas and Onda to travel to the UK with us. Owner Ana is working as a care professional in the Gloucester area. We collected the two dogs from their grandparents in Nazaré, who gave them a very loving send-off.
Snowball
Daniella is just finishing her Erasmus year in Madrid, before heading back to university in Edinburgh for her finals next year. While she was in Madrid, she adopted a stray cat called Snowball, who’s relocating to Scotland with her.
We popped Snowball and his carry bag into his bedroom, along with his own special blanket. A proper home from home!
Sally’s hamster
At Sabadell in Catalonia we met up with Sally and her partner, and their gorgeous little black-and-white hamster — a late addition to our trip. We received an email in the morning asking if she could travel —fortunately, we were passing nearby that very day with a space to spare, so now she’s on her way to Wakefield.
Charlie and Louis
We collected this wonderful pair of dogs from James at Domaine Bégude near Limoux. Part of the family is moving back to Yorkshire so that daughter Millie can go to secondary school there.
What gorgeous countryside……..lovely wine………happy families!
Hugs, Pam and Sam
It’s great getting inside info from our customers on the wine front! We tested the Chardonnay last night and it was delicious 😀
Hi gang have a great day
Thanks guys — we hope to progress further and faster today 😉
Visit a winery on the way – great idea.
You’d be surprised by how much research needs doing 😉
I love your blog. Wish I visited more often. The best photos ever and such fun passengers, not mention it’s like getting a travel tour of all the places you go.
Hi Savvy, thanks for your lovely visit and sweet words!
Quite a varied load of beautiful passengers and some very gorgeous countryside. Love the vineyard and inside peek at Domaine Begude!
Although the countryside was indeed very beautiful, a little more sunshine would have made it quite stunning. We did have to peek inside a bottle that evening 😉 Delicious!
Hi guys,
We just want to thank you again so much for accepting a last minute little passenger, our hamster, Beau!
The scenery on your roadtrip back to the UK looks amazing and reminds us of our own roadtrip with Beau from Andorra down to Catalunya to get her to you.
Thanks again and we’ve already told all of our overseas animal-owning friends all about you and the wonderful service you provide!
Sally & Ben
Hi Sally & Ben – it was our pleasure to fit Beau in! Her name fits her very well.
So glad to be back and part of your travels again 🙂 Wonderful group of travelling companions again! Safe travels!
Great to have you back Marty! Thanks for joining the trip.
Spike needs a new buddy, and I think Onda is the perfect friend for him – do you mind stealing him and sending to Casa de Canterbury?? 🙂
Your business must be booming, and I have no wonder why – your loving care is obvious in every post!!
Oh, we see so many hounds who could make Spike a great buddy – such a shame we’re so far away!
For a moment I thought Courier M was offering the dogs some wine! 😉
Oh, courier M doesn’t like to share his wine 😀
It definitely looks like you and all the gorgeous passengers had lots of fun AC. Such stunning photos of everything and the landscapes at Glouchester is just so beautiful. Ludo the Peke stole my heart. What a beautiful darling! Thanks for sharing. 😀 ♥
Everyone had a lot of fun but a little more sun would have made it much better! Glad you enjoyed the countryside – we did visit some gorgeous places.
That looks like a very interesting trip with some gorgeous passengers.
A super group again and some fun places to visit.
Such beautiful animals! I can’t wait to be reunited with Snowball. I hope she is making friends! 😀 safe travels. Danielle xx
Hi Danielle, won’t be long now until Snowball is back with you. She made friends with all the humans she met – quite a stunner and jolly friendly!
Hamsters and rabbits – that was quite the trip (and definitely one where you make sure any cats along for the ride are securely fastened inside their carriers!).
Ah yes, we do make sure there is no intermingling of species on any of our trips 😉
Even a hamster, wow, that´s so neat… and … the cat Thor is definitely a very cute kitten…
Very nice post… all my best wishes. Aquileana
Yes, the hamster was a last-minute addition to the trip but a very cute one! Thor is a very gorgeous cat. Glad you enjoyed it.
The pictures of the country are amazing, Annie. What a beautiful environment…even without the wine 😀 One by one all lovely passengers again. cute and adorable and we are leaving the blog with a big smile on our face again 🙂 Pawkisses for a safe travel 🙂 <3 <3
You’re right, all gorgeous even without wine 😀 So glad you’ve got smiles on your faces!
Enjoyed this trip 🙂 Wanted to let you know I love your animal videos on Facebook 🙂
We’re having a lot of fun posting the videos – glad you’re enjoying them 😀
