A new EU pet travel scheme regulation was due to be introduced on 29 December 2014. It required dogs, cats and ferrets travelling between EU countries more than five days before or after their owners to be recorded on the Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES).
This regulation has been withdrawn. Dogs, cats and ferrets just need a valid pet passport, even if they’re travelling more than five days before or after their owners.
However, pets being rehomed from one EU country to another with a change of ownership do need to be recorded on TRACES. See our blog from last month for more information.
In addition, some other changes to the EU pet travel scheme come into effect on 29 December 2014. Read our blog to find out more.
Ty for this information.
They’re keeping us busy with all the updates and changes! Important to pass this on.
Thanks for the information :o)
We’re very relieved this went away as it was very difficult to see how it would work – think they thought that too 😉
Interesting!

All those rules and regs, eh?!
Gosh, I don’t know how you keep up with all these rules and regs, but if it makes sense to you, that’s all that matters! You have a wonderful business and help so many people and their loved ones…wonderful…truly. Have a great weekend!
We try and post all the info we round up to help our clients – they’re always looking for the latest news.
It looks as if somebody came to their senses. I’m sure most people are happy it did not take months or even years to wake up to the ridiculous rules/laws.
Yes, we really felt this one was going nowhere as how it could have been policed, we have no idea!
That’s great news and at least one less worry for so many pet owners. 🙂
A regulation that was going nowhere so a relief that we (and they) didn’t have to scramble around worrying about it!
Where do they come up with such rubbish? Idk. 😉 Thank goodness it got nowhere.
