On our return from Crete we called back in at the Filozoikos Shelter in Athens to collect two dogs, Stratis and Sebastian, who are travelling with Animalcouriers to new homes in the UK.
Young Stratis was found abandoned in central Athens with his ears cut to make him look like a Doberman, and two broken legs. The shelter nursed him back to health and everyone who’s looked after him has completely fallen for him. Now he’s on his way to his forever home with Vivienne in Brighton.
Sebastian, still only eight months old and growing, also had trouble with his legs. He was found as a stray pup, only a month old. As well as severe mange, he had poor muscle development which made his legs look bowed. The vet recommended lots of gentle walks to build up the muscles — which is where Jenny came in. She was combining a holiday with two weeks of helping out at the shelter, and the task of walking Sebastian fell to her. Not only did Sebastian’s legs straighten, but he and Jenny bonded completely. When he became available for adoption, Jenny’s mum arranged it for her as a surprise birthday present.
At Kostas near Porto Cheli we met up with English Bull Terrier Penelope who belongs to Matt and Sophie. She travelled out to Greece with us in April and has spent the whole summer in Spetzes, making friends with other dogs and playing on the beach every day. Now she’s on her way back to Surrey.
