Animalcouriers met with Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) and the dogs’ families at the KAR office to discuss options for transporting the dogs to the UK
The one we’re favouring is for the dogs and their owners to leave North Cyprus with us on Thursday night on the overnight ferry from Famagusta to the Turkish port of Mersin.
Eren from Petical Vets in Mersin has come back a day early from a conference in Istanbul and is preparing paperwork and making arrangements with the Turkish government vet. So when we arrive on Friday everything should be in place to enable the dogs to enter Turkey in transit for the EU.
There so many elements to consider:
- The ferry booking
- Insurance for everyone
- New export papers to leave North Cyprus
- Turkish declarations which will be notarised by a Turkish solicitor
- Passports and car papers
- Enlisting an agent in Mersin (we have not forgotten our 15 hour experience there last year!)
Not forgetting the dogs themselves!
Lynn and Bob, the owners of Purdey and Cookie, are selling their house which is due to complete on Friday, so can’t join in this plan. Instead, their dogs are going to fly to the UK next Wednesday. Courier R will meet Purdey and Cookie at Heathrow airport, and they’ll home board with Animalcouriers until Lynn and Bob reach the UK.
So we will cross on Thursday night with just five dogs (and their owners): Brandy, Reo, Roxy, Jasper and Tink.
I am keeping EVERYTHING crossed that plan z is the winner!!!
Thanks Basil – we need that luck!
Good luck!
Thanks Julie – we need it!

Good luck! We wish you all the best, a smooth passage and a good humoured government vet.
Thanks so much – would that be too much to ask for?
I can’t tell you how I open each post, hoping that you’ve made it well and good. Until you do, I send all good wishes that you can finally get past these dam*ed bureaucrats….

Thanks Bob & Lynn – hope all goes well with the packing and moving. We’ll take good care of Cookie and Purdey while they wait your return! x
Lakme and Maja are cheering you on. They are eager to get home too. We’ve got all our fingers and paws crossed. I hope it is smooth sailing from now on.
Thanks Maria – we’re looking forward to Lakme and Maja joining the trip as soon as possible!
Paws crossed plan Z works. Poor owners (and you) must be frazzled with all the paperwork and uncertainty.
It has been a frazzling time Zena. We are now very helpful the paperwork is in perfect order…
My gosh, what an ordeal. I’m seeing all kinds of trouble in Turkey on the news. Hopefully not in your area. Be safe and good luck.
Thanks so much – our route luckily misses out the Istanbul area. We now hope that Greece settles down before we arrive (general strike today to protest the closure of the state broadcaster).
You almost need military precision to organize some of these trips, lol…. 😉
We do plan things as carefully as possible but then something comes along to upset everything 😉
