Robbie the Westie will get extra TLC

Animalcouriers collected West Highland Terrier Robbie who's been living near Tavira in the Algarve. He's travelling with us to Kent. At 12 years old he's quite a senior chap and has a couple of health issues: he's a bit deaf and has fibroids in his chest. But he's an extremely happy dog who has a wonderful relationship with his owners. He's also very independent — he loves cuddles and attention, but after about 10 minutes is ready to return to his own activities. We'll be taking extra special care of this little character. Robbie

Sandy is heading for the UK

There were big goodbyes for Golden Retriever Sandy when Animalcouriers collected him in the Alentejo region of Portugal today. His immediate family is emigrating to Bahrain, so Sandy is off to live with relatives in the UK. The family will return to Portugal for two months every summer, and Sandy will spend the holidays with them. He's a lovely, calm and cuddly dog. Goodbye hugs for Sandy

Eco from Pau

Couriers J and M travelled across country from Narbonne to Pau to collect Eco the Beagle, who's heading to Oxfordshire. Eco's been staying with Helen and Graham who run a business washing horse rugs and looking after people's dogs. They say they'll collect and deliver horse rugs within a range of 40km, and further if there are a lot of rugs to be washed. It's so interesting meeting entrepreneurs! Eco checks out the van and his fellow passengers and looks interested in knowing what's for supper. We've been told he loves his food! Helen and Graham of [...]

Avoiding the fires in Spanish Catalonia

Yesterday couriers J and M were due to travel to Barcelona to collect several pets. But the wildfire raging in Catalonia since Sunday night meant they had to change their plans, as crossing the border from France to Spain was almost impossible. Instead, they arranged with Spanish partner company Traveldog to bring the cats and dogs to a meeting point well away from the danger. As Animalcouriers drove down to meet Traveldog they were passed by crews of pompiers, the French fire brigade, who were on they way to help their Spanish colleagues, the Bomberos. The speed and determination with [...]

Tucha spends the night on a farm

On our travels we're often lucky enough to stay in lovely places, but last night was truly a paradise. Tucha and couriers S and L spent the night on an agroturismo farm (Monte Aguentinha Do Campo) near Messejana in Portugal, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. These are working farms with rooms for visitors, and we knew it would be a peaceful spot with plenty of lovely walks for Tucha. We were warmly welcomed by the family and enjoyed an evening meal with them, making lifelong friends. We took an early walk this morning to beat the high temperatures and were [...]
