We are driving through Italy and have an evening appointment booked with our Italian vet colleague — unfortunately the most recent worming treatment our charges have had on their trip from North Cyprus times out before we get to the UK. As the dogs have already had two of these treatments in order to cross borders since their trip started, we wrote and asked Defra for a dispensation. Last October Animalcouriers took Thelma, a very elegant 19-year-old Siamese, from Belfast to Tarragona in Spain. Courier R was due to collect her for the return journey tomorrow, but her owner Karen contacted us to say that, very sadly, Thelma had to be put to sleep this morning. We were very sorry to hear the news, as we had so enjoyed getting to know Thelma. We know she led a full and happy life, and even at nearly 20 she still had a great attitude. Animalcouriers reached the Italian port of Bari at 8.30 this morning local time. Our proposed route towards the UK is now via Trento and Innsbruck and from there straight to Calais.
Courier R's itinerary for today sees him collecting Peeky the cat from Sotogrande, near Gibralter. He's then due to return to the Fuengirola area for cats Claudio and Benny, who're doubtless packing their cases this very minute with extra helpings of sardines. From there he'll be off to Malaga city to pick up Gala the Podenco, who's heading for Dublin — we hope she'll be able to understand the Irish dogs in the park when she gets there.
