Neutering funds for the Pia Bella ginger tom

Smokey, an elderly cat, was due to travel with Animalcouriers from Geneva later this month. Very sadly, Smokey fell ill, and his owner Val made the difficult decision to have him put to sleep. Given the circumstances we offered Val her deposit back. She refused it, asking us instead to donate it to another cat somewhere. You may remember when we were staying at the Pia Bella hotel, we made friends with a charming young ginger tom. We'd been talking about how good it would be if he could be neutered before he grew up. So we told Val about him, and [...]

Tammi has a ‘keep calm’ collar on

Tammi's owner sent Animalcouriers a special DAP collar. It's impregnated with a dog-appeasing pheromone (DAP) that's designed to 'calm' her during the trip, as she is quite a nervous dog. We're pleased to say she's doing very well. To begin with, we had to carry her in and out of the van for walks. Now she stands with her tail thumping against the side of her compartment, wanting so much to go on a lovely walk! She's learned that we're always nice to her. She still gets a bit unsure if something different happens but she's come a long way [...]

The story of Olive, Topaz’s sister

Topaz is travelling with Animalcouriers to live with Liz. She'll be the second North Cyprus street dog adopted by Liz, who tells us: "I visit North Cyprus twice a year and always try to do a littel for KAR, even if it's only taking some dogs for a walk. Although that once proved rather difficult as when my husband and I took six dogs for a mountain walk, one of them found a litter of six pups who'd been dumped — the last thing KAR needed us to present them with! "Two-and-a-half years ago I found an abondoned, emaciated puppy [...]

A bit more background on Bo

Lin, who is eagerly awaiting Bo's arrival in the UK, told us more about how she discovered Bo and came to adopt her. "When we first saw Bo last year, she was very skinny and had a red tag in her ear. When we gave her some food, we were struck by how gentle she was and the fact that she didn't snap for it. She sat with us at our feet and was very timid as other dogs came to check her out. She seemed to seek sanctuary with us. "The next night we had a meal at the [...]

Morning walks north of Antalya

We stayed last night in a five-star hotel (thank you Booking.com) just north of Antalya, which is on the Mediterranean coast of south-western Turkey. To the east of us are snow-covered mountains and the hotel staff say the weather conditions are very bad there. We saw lots of amazed faces this morning as we spent over two hours walking all the dogs.
