Freddie, Gimley, Bella and Annie

These four intrepid felines have been living with their owners, Tracey and her husband, on the sunbaked Greek island of Thassos for the last 10 months.

We were lucky enough to take this cat family to Greece when they emigrated, so got to know them quite well.

Now they have all decided it is time to return to England’s green and pleasant land.

The first stage of the journey is an hour-long ferry trip from the sleepy harbour at Thassos to the equally sleepy and laid-back port of Keramoti. While waiting for the ferry to set off we were fascinated by the various species of fish we could see in the clear blue water beside the ferry.

Throughout the journey we were escorted by 50 or so seagulls circling the ferry in the hope of a free meal. To cap it all, as we entered the port at Keramoti, a pair of dolphins joined us.

We are now motoring across the northern mainland of Greece to reach Igoumenitsa and the night ferry to Italy. This will be the second of our cats’ three sea crossings — in recognition of which, we are planning a seafood supper for them!
