Our friendly vet, Dr Diana James, came to meet us in Lyon with her son Harry, so that Diana could give the dogs and cats a check and do the parasite treatments for all those who’ll be entering the UK on this run. (Laranjinha the cat, along with Pavlina and Ares, are staying in Calais until we collect them very early in January.)

It was a great excuse for a Christmas meal together. And you can imagine our delight when we pulled back the curtains this morning and could see there was snow! Harry was very keen for the snow to keep on falling. During breakfast we speculated on whether it had reached his garden.

Our hotel had its own parkland, with plenty of woods, grass and trees. After breakfast, and as darkness turned to daybreak, we took full advantage of this lovely location to give all the dogs a walk.

Erasmia did her usual roll, Thanos leapt around as he always does and slipped on the light snow. Harry was especially taken with Zoe, who reminded us all of an old doggie friend called Juanita, another sweet and caring girl. The rest of them behaved as if snow was an everyday event — after all we do have our fur coats on all the time!

As it was slippery we only managed a few photos of them in the snow.

Sorry Harry, you can't keep Zoe!
